Historic Osh Hop celebrates architecture in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, WI – (WISS) – The Historic Osh Hop will celebrate a wide variety of architectural styles, periods, and preservation in the Oshkosh. The historic parade of homes will take place from 11 am to 3 pm, Saturday, May 11. 

Katie Stel, the marketing and advancement coordinator of the Oshkosh Public Museum (OPM), says the Historic Osh Hop helps the museum celebrate Historic Preservation Month this May. While only ticket holders will know all eight stops of the Osh Hop, Stel says that a wide variety of styles, periods, and types of preservation are highlighted. 

“We have a really nice variety of properties, in terms of size and in terms of time period,” said Stel. “And we also have some interesting variety of the levels of preservation, if you will.”

Venues like the Howard and restored homes like the Sawyer House, the Doe House, and the Corbett House are on the tour.

“The Corbett House is right next to The Howard,” said Stel. “It’s a huge Queen Anne. And it has it’s own unique recent history. It was vacant for a long time. The folks that own it and are renovating it have come across a lot of strange things.”

Historic Osh Hop ticket information

Tickets are available only at OshkoshMuseum.org. Stel says to be aware of some scam sites on social media that may advertise tickets. 

“Tickets are only available on our website. I know that there are plenty of ticket scams that you’ll see on social media. So make sure you are visiting OshoshMuseum.org for tickets.”

They are 46.50 for non-museum members. Museum members will get a 25% discount on ticket prices.

Stel says it is important to remember that proceeds from ticket sales help move the mission of OPM forward. 

“OPM is a non-profit, which I think sometimes is easy to forget. We’re part of the city, but we do have a non-profit mission, and we serve the public,” said Stel. “And this event is helping to make that possible.”

A reception will follow the Historic Osh Hop at the Howard from 3 pm to 5 pm.

New “Historic Osh Hop” Event Benefits OPM Mission

Oshkosh, May 2, 2024 – The Oshkosh Public Museum is celebrating Historic Preservation Month in May with a new event called the Historic Osh Hop. This new event invites guests to visit eight historic properties on Saturday, May 11.  Proceeds benefit OPM, a nonprofit regional history museum that preserves and promotes the history, art, and culture of Oshkosh and the Lake Winnebago Region.

The Historic Osh Hop highlights a variety of historic properties. From venues like The Howard, to carefully restored homes like The Doe House, participating Osh Hop Stops represent a wide spectrum of architectural styles, time periods, and historical preservation. Each property offers unique insights into stories of Oshkosh, past and present.

“OPM is a nonprofit museum and proceeds from this event will help move our mission forward,” says Kate Stel, Marketing + Advancement Coordinator at OPM. “We are excited to bring this new event to Oshkosh. Our community is fortunate to have many and varied examples of historic architecture and we’re thrilled that property owners and caretakers are welcoming the public to experience them.”

This event celebrates both OPM 100, the Museum’s centennial year, and Historic Preservation Month, marked nationwide in May. Tickets are available only at oshkoshmuseum.org.
