While Richland County Supervisors were reeling from the decision of UW-Platteville to vacate the Richland Campus by July 1, a legislative forum was being held on UW funding in Muscoda. State Senator Kelda Roys and Assembly Representative Katrina Shankland shared their experiences regarding recent higher education funding negotiations.
Senator Roys is a member of the Senate Committee on Universities and Revenue.
She says it is frustrating. She hears excuses as to why public education in the state is suffering, not only in higher education, but K-12 as well.
Representative Shankland is a member of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities. She stated that she has been trying to get conversations going like the one held last night, and was thrilled to be invited. She had some points to share with the many that attended.
She continues to call for a Blue Ribbon Commission.
Senator Roys was asked if she feels education is in crisis in the state.
Rep. Shankland added.
Many wondering on the future of education in the state participated in last night’s (Tuesday) forum.
